IamBigBrother Review:
Summary:
IamBigBrother would be a decent choice for basic monitoring of children's web activities. However it lacks many features found in higher ranked products.
Features:
The main strength is their AOL monitoring features. IamBigBrother can monitor AOL email, IM, chat rooms, screen names and passwords. It is supposed to monitor MSN Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, and ICQ chat. However, it failed to capture an MSN Messenger chat conversation during our test. Screenshots intervals range from 1 minute to 15 minutes - we feel that 1 minute is too long too get a good enough picture of what the user is doing. One neat feature is that you can monitor activity remotely from the web - however this is an add-on service.
Usability / Management:
In order to invoke the management interface, you must type a command, using the Windows Run command. IamBigBrother has a nice clean organized interface which allows you to select the category for which you want to view recorded activity. The setup options are very basic allowing you set various features such as screen capture interval, specific keywords to scan for during chats, and startup options.
Detectability:
In order to invoke the management interface, you must type a command, using the Windows Run command. This could be a problem if the user is aware of the filename used for this purpose. Also, when you first install, a link is placed on the desktop instructing you how to use iAmBigBrother. Other than this, we were unable to find any traces of iAmBigBrother in task manager, services list, add/remove programs or the start menu.
Support:
No user manual. But they have an online FAQ and online contact form. |
